SAP BUYER GUIDE

SAP integration project checklist: define the whole business transaction

Write a stronger SAP integration brief covering ownership, mappings, failures, reconciliation, testing and operational handover.

Begin with the transaction the business needs

A useful SAP integration brief describes a business event, the systems involved and the evidence that the event completed correctly. For example, a sales order may need to create downstream fulfilment and reporting actions. This is an illustrative scenario, not a Nexus8 client case. A connection that sends data is only one part of the business outcome.

Map the start and end of the process

State which system creates the authoritative record and what each receiving system must do with it. Identify the process owners who can resolve differences in definitions. Document which fields are mandatory, how identifiers are related and when an update should replace, append to or reject existing information. Include business exceptions such as cancellations and corrections where they apply.

Agree delivery and reconciliation expectations

Record expected frequency, likely volumes and the business impact of late or missing data. Decide how the receiving team confirms that the expected records arrived and were accepted. Batch totals, status tracking or other checks may be appropriate depending on the process. The chosen method should support an accountable business decision, rather than merely show that a network request succeeded.

ScenarioExpected decision
Invalid recordReject or hold with an actionable error
Repeated eventPrevent an unintended duplicate transaction
Unavailable dependencyDetect failure and use an agreed recovery path

Design for failure as well as success

Ask what happens when one system is unavailable, a record fails validation or the same event is received twice. Establish who investigates, how work is queued or corrected and when replay is safe. Avoid allowing repeated processing to create duplicate business transactions. The technical mechanism depends on the systems, but the required business behaviour should be agreed in the scope.

Name the owners on both sides

List the SAP owner, connected-application owner, infrastructure or integration operator and business approver. Identify who supplies test environments and who approves access. If a third-party vendor must change its application, make that dependency explicit. A project plan that includes only one supplier’s tasks can miss the activity that ultimately determines the completion date.

Build acceptance scenarios before delivery

Test a normal transaction, incomplete or invalid data, an unavailable dependency, a repeated message and a corrected transaction where applicable. Include reconciliation and access behaviour. Agree expected results and keep the evidence with the test record. A successful demonstration using one prepared record should not be treated as proof that operational exceptions have been addressed.

Plan operating ownership after go-live

The handover should include monitoring, contact routes, known limitations, recovery instructions and a controlled way to request changes. Explain who will notice a problem when business users are not watching. Set a review after launch to examine real failures and unresolved assumptions. Good operational documentation helps support teams continue the process when the original project team has moved on.

Prepare the first conversation with Nexus8

Share the source and destination applications, business transaction, location, expected frequency and main problem you want to solve. Businesses can use the SAP integration service page to start a scoped discussion. Include redacted examples if useful. Interface technology and delivery commitments should follow an assessment of the actual landscape and responsibilities.

Discuss your SAP requirement

Tell us your company location, SAP landscape, business issue and preferred timing. The next step is a discussion of scope and delivery responsibilities.
